The new year is upon is and 2015 seems like it went by so quickly. So now is the time when we here of countless New Year’s Resolutions of folks claiming to finally go back to the gym or get their life in order or get that big promotion they’ve been waiting for. If you’re already a gym goer, be prepared for the hundreds of people coming in for the first time with absolutely no clue what to do. But, with 2016 quickly approaching, we think it best to take a look back on the year in the world of Audi and see what the best Audi of 2015 was.
This past year was actually a good one for the Ingolstadt-based brand, as it saw the release of several new debuts, new technologies and new concept cars that will continue to shape the brand for years to come. There’s also been a massive shift in focus for Audi, as it’s becoming much more aggressive in both its driving dynamics and its approach toward the industry. Audi has been aggressive in advancing new technologies and proving to the world that it can hang with the best of them and be an innovator in the field. Cars like the e-tron Quattro concept prove that and cars like the new TT and R8 prove that Audi is dedicated to making sports cars that compete with the best companies in the business.
But out of all of the great Audis and Audi technologies to debut this year, which has been the best?
The Audi A4 certainly needs to be up high on the list, as it’s Audi’s best-selling and most popular car, so creating a new one is always going to be important. However, this new B9 Audi A4 isn’t only important because of the segment it fills, it’s important because it puts Audi back on the map. The previous A4 was a very competent, very good car to own that had plenty of creature comforts, great technology and good performance. But it wasn’t exactly fun or dynamic and suffered when compared to cars like the BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS and Jaguar XE. Now, though, the new Audi A4 is as dynamic as all of those cars, packs excellent engines and has one of the best interiors in the entire industry. The new Audi A4 will easily compete for the top of the class when it finally debuts in the ‘States.
The new Audi TT is also quite excellent. For its third generation, the TT is finally the sports car we’d always hoped it could be. It’s fun, dynamic, driver-focused and finally less girly. The previous TT was always looked at as a hair-dresser’s car (not that there’s anything wrong with hair-dressers) which never made enthusiasts very happy. However, this new one is a proper sports car with dynamite looks and a driver-focused interior.
We can’t mention the great Audis of 2015 without mentioning the Audi e-tron Quattro Concept. The concept that showed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show was something of absolute brilliance. A 310 mile electric SUV with coupe-like looks and 429 horsepower is the stuff of dreams, but Audi though it up with the brilliant Audi e-tron Quattro Concept. The e-tron Quattro could be the car that puts Audi way ahead of its rivals at BMW and Tesla, as it boasts a range far further than anything else while offering blistering performance, technology and luxury. Plus it looks flipping fantastic.
If we’re going to mention technologies, then Audi’s Virtual Cockpit has to be in here. While this is just an option on all Audis (once Audi finishes putting it in every model), it is by far and away the coolest gauge cluster in the entire industry. Being able to display basic gauges like a standard car or being able to turn into a massive navigation screen right in front of the driver, as well as perform all of the MMI infotainment functions, with just the touch of a steering-wheel mounted button, the Virtual Cockpit is the best thing to happen to the automobile since satellite navigation.
These are just to name a few. The Audi Q7, Q7 e-tron, A3 e-tron Sportback and the new S4 are some more. But Audi has had an incredible year and it only figures to get better next year, with the release of the new A5, RS4, TT RS and the new A8 concept. But before we look ahead toward next year, let’s just look back at the fantastic year Audi’s had. Which of these amazing cars, technologies or concepts do you think was Audi’s best this year?
