VIDEO: Watch the Audi RS Q8 hit top speed on the Autobahn

One of the only places where you can really uncork a performance car’s potential is the Autobahn. With large sections of unrestricted road, the Autobahn is the go-to place for enthusiasts to truly test the absurd top speeds of their cars. In this new POV drive video, we get to see the all-new Audi RS Q8 stretch its legs and dear Jeebus is it fast.

Typically, performance SUVs aren’t the enthusiast’s first choice. However, it’s hard to not be impressed by the sheer fury that the new Audi RS Q8 is capable of. Its all-new 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 makes 591 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, which is 600 of each in QD maths. In reality, it probably makes even more, knowing of Audi’s propensity to underrate its engines.

In this video, we get to watch the new Audi RS Q8 unleash all of that V8 power and it’s shockingly fast. As soon as traffic gets out of its way, the driver puts his foot down and the big brute just surges forward with genuinely impressive speed. It reaches damn-near its top speed (it hit 303 km/h, which is 188.2 mph, just 0.8 mph shy of its 189 mph top speed) relatively quickly, once the road clears enough for it.

What’s also really impressive is just how stable it is at speed. That’s one benefit of the RS Q8’s size and heft, as it remains rock-solid even at almost 200 mph. It’s actually quite remarkable to see how calm the driver’s hands are at the full 303 km/h. Few cars are that easy to drive at that speed and it seems the Audi RS Q8 is one of them. No wonder it broke the SUV lap record at the Nurburgring.

We’re not huge performance SUV lovers, here at QD. However, it’s hard to not love the Audi RS Q8 in a hilarious dancing-elephant sort of way.
