Shortly after the Audi RS6 Avant debuted, tuning company MTM put out a tuning package that bumped power up from the stock car’s 591 horsepower to a whopping 1,001 PS (987 horsepower). Needless to say, it’s very fast. However, being fast in a straight line is one thing. Being fast on a circuit is an entirely different thing. So can the RS6 handle that much power on track?
In this new video from Auto Sport, we get to see driver Christian Gebhardt take to the wheel of the monstrous MTM-tuned Audi RS6 Avant on the Hockenheim-GP circuit.
The car in this video was fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, among the most aggressive and capable tires on the market. Those tires were necessary in lapping such a powerful, heavy vehicle around a proper racing circuit. So how did it do?
Watching the video from the in-car camera, you can see just how violently fast it is. Its monster power helps it power out of corners with incredible acceleration. Its Quattro all-wheel drive also helps it put all of its power down. Of course, being a front-heavy, all-wheel drive Audi, it understeers a bit mid-corner. However, you can see Gebhardt is able to wrestle it through the corner and use its epic power to overcome any speed lost from the understeer.
When it was all said and done, the MTM-tuned Audi RS6 Avant recorded a 1:53.4 lap time, which puts it ahead of cars like the Porsche Cayman GT4, Audi R8 Spyder V10 Performance, and the BMW M5 Competition. Admittedly, it took nearly 1,000 horsepower and Michelin Cup 2 tires to get achieve that lap time but it’s impressive nevertheless.
What’s also impressive is just how easy it is to make that sort of power from the RS6. As an owner, you can take your Audi RS6 Avant to MTM and for just a few thousand dollars gain super-slaying horsepower and performance.
