One of the most oddball cars to come out of Germany in the past decade or so was the Audi Q7 V12 TDI. It’s not often you see an SUV with a V12 engine, never mind a V12 diesel engine. In this current market, with the way most customers feel about diesel right now, there isn’t a chance in hell that a V12 diesel SUV will ever be made again. So look at the Q7 V12 TDI as a bit of a unicorn. Especially this tuned 575 hp version featured on AutoTopNL.
In this latest video, we get to see a POV drive of the tuned Audi Q7 V12 TDI. When I say POV drive, we really only get to see the gauges. Though, that’s really the highlight of the car, as watching the speedo and tach work as quickly as they do in a diesel SUV. Watching the speedometer read the sort of silly numbers it does in this video is absurd in such a car. Absurd but incredible.
From launch, the Audi Q7 V12 TDI gets to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than five seconds which, for a diesel SUV as big and as heavy as this, is actually pretty quick. In the video, the V12 Q7 hits a top speed of 217 km/h (134 mph), which is actually really fast in an SUV. It might not seem fast compared to something like an Audi RS5 but in a diesel Q7, that’s really impressive.
The only real downside of this car is that it doesn’t really make a good noise. The noise coming from its exhausts on take off is just that — noise. Being a twin-turbocharged diesel, we never expected it to sound great. But with a 575 hp V12 engine, you might just want a bit more aggressive sound. It might need an aftermarket exhaust, maybe an Akrapovic unit.
Still, this is a crazy cool car, one that’s basically in a class of one. It’s far more interesting than any other fast SUV, including the new Audi SQ7 TDI.
