This new generation of Audi S8 is an interesting one. It’s actually a bit less powerful than the previous-gen S8 and seems to be geared more toward luxury. However, it’s just as fast as the car it replaces, thanks to more torque and lighter weight. It’s luxury is also far better than before and it’s just a better car overall, as we can see in this new video from The Straight Pipes.
In this new video, we check out the Audi S8; its power, performance and all of its luxury and tech; to see if it’s as good as its rivals from Mercedes-AMG and BMW. The S8 takes on cars like the Mercedes-AMG S63 and BMW M760i. Those are both the high-performance versions of the S-Class and 7 Series, respectively, and among the fastest versions each brand makes.
Powering the Audi S8 is a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 making 563 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The AMG makes 603 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque from its own 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, while the BMW makes 601 hp and 627 lb-ft. However, the latter of which uses a 6.0 liter twin-turbo V12 to do it.
While this video isn’t a direct comparison from The Straight Pipes, they’re both constantly referencing each of the other two cars as the benchmarks in the test. So it’s interesting to see how they feel it stacks up against each. As it turns out, it seems as if the Audi S8 compares well, especially considering it’s the cheapest car of the three.
Is it better than its rivals, though? You’ll have to watch the video to find out but, overall, it seems that the new S8 is an incredible all-around luxury performance car. It has good, if a bit subdued, looks, a great interior, an incredible ride and killer performance. So best or not, the new Audi S8 is awesome.
