VIDEO: Schaeffler 4ePerformance is a 1,200 hp electric Audi RS3

Audi has been working with Team ABT Schaeffler for some time now in Formula E. The two brands have been working on battery, electric motor and performance technology for the past couple of years and have had some success. Now, though, Schaeffler has developed its own electric car, based on the Audi RS3 Sedan, that will easily turn heads, whether that be from its looks or its performance.

What started out as a standard Audi RS3 has become an all-electric, all-out monster. Rather than the brilliant 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder, the Schaeffler “4ePerformance” uses four electric motors from the ABT Schaeffler FE01 Formula E racing car. That makes a very healthy 1,200 PS. While that converts to 1,186, that’s still 1,200 hp by our maths. With how small the RS3 is and how powerful this Schaeffler 4ePeroformance is, it’s going to be a blast to drive.

It’s going to be insanely fast, this Schaeffler-tuned electric RS3. With all of that instant thrust on tap, very few cars, if any at all, can stand a chance in a drag race. The best part? The fact that it’s fully electric. So all of that mind-bending performance comes without a worry for the environment, making it a smart and responsible purchase.

This specific car looks a bit funky, with massive body work and a fixed wing. So it’s not your average Audi A3 and it doesn’t look like one either. It also looks very high tech, especially thanks to its electric powertrain. We can’t wait to give it a go and see how it standard up to its, admittedly small, competition. With 1,200 hp and instantaneous torque, the Audi e-tron is shaping up to be a seriously unforgettable machine.

Another interesting to note is how rear-driven it seems to look. There were several moments during the video where we can see the RS3 getting a bit sideways and tailhappy. That’s not like an A3 at all but it’s a welcome addition.
