The next generations of the Audi A5 Coupe and its hot S5 Coupe brother were spotted recently performing intense testing on the Nordschleife. Now that we know how the all-new A4 (B9) looks like, it’s safe to say the sleeker A5 family will adopt an evolutionary design with sharper lines which should make the coupe versions even sleeker than the outgoing model.
Seen in the attached footage are both the A5 and S5 which should be out towards the end of next year, with the A5 coming out first while the S5 will be out several months later. Both will employ the updated MLB platform which will command a serious weight loss which in the case of the A4 has granted a 120 kg diet.
The A5 will obviously get the same array of engines as its four-door sibling, so expect the range to start with a 2.0 TFSI with 190 hp & 320 Nm and 252 hp & 370 Nm. On diesel side there will be a 2.0 TDI with 150 hp & 320 Nm and 190 hp & 400 Nm as well as a larger 3.0 TDI six-cylinder offered in two states of tune: 218 hp & 400 Nm and 272 hp & 600 Nm. It is unlikely Audi will offer the A4’s entry-level 1.4 TFSI with 150 hp and 250 Nm.
As far as the spicier S5 is concerned, this is believed to receive a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with about 354 hp. We will know this for sure in a little over a month when Audi will introduce the S4 Sedan and S4 Avant at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
