VIDEO: MTM-tuned 612 hp Audi TT RS

No one has ever driven the new Audi TT RS and though “ya know what, it’s good but it’s too slow.” With a 2.5 liter turbo-five making 400 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, the TT RS can rocket to 60 mph in about 3.7 seconds. Not long ago, that was Ferrari territory and that level of performance would cost $300,000. Now, you can get it in a $70,000 front-engine Audi coupe with heated seats, sat-nav and good gas mileage. However, there are some wonderful lunatics who want to make it even faster and they’re called MTM and their Stage 3 tune gives the little Audi 612 hp. In this new video from AutoTopNL, we take a look at this beastly Audi TT RS in a POV drive.

To get to that level of power, MTM has added a new air intake, stainless steel exhaust system, a new turbocharger and, of course, an engine tune, among other things. Visually, it gets MTM “Nardo Edition” wheels, which look really nice, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the best and most aggressive summer tire on the market. It’s also sitting on a set of KW V3 adjustable coilovers, my favorite suspension setup on the market.

The 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder in the Audi TT RS sounds fantastic straight out of the box. It’s actually the best sounding Audi engine that isn’t in an R8. However, this MTM-tuned TT RS sounds insane. It’s incredibly loud, especially when cold, and makes a ton of pops and bangs. It’s also ferociously fast. There’s a bit of lag low down but once the turbo spools up it just explodes down the road. It’s really quite remarkable just how fast it is. It has as much horsepower as an Audi R8 V10 Plus but weighs significantly less and has just as much grip. So it’s seriously quick.

We love the Audi TT RS and don’t think it needs any extra power. But if you want something a bit more extreme, we highly recommend looking into an MTM Stage 3 tune.
