Now that the Audi e-tron GT is finally here (yay!), it’s gaining a ton of praise from enthusiasts for its killer new design. Even fans of other brands are admitting to its beauty. What’s most interesting, though, is just how much better looking it seems to be than its sibling, the Porsche Taycan. Both the e-tron GT and Taycan are based on the exact same chassis, have almost identical proportions and feature the same running gear. So you’d think they would look almost identical. But they don’t.
In this new video from Carwow, Mat Watson breaks down the design of the Audi e-tron GT and talks about ten cool things about Audi’s latest electric car.
As far as its design goes, it’s not as curvy as the Porsche Taycan but it’s certainly more aggressive. It looks sportier and angrier, which differentiates it from its sibling. More importantly, it looks sportier, flashier and much more aggressive than the Tesla Model S and that last bit is important. The Model S packs more range and more power for similar money, so the e-tron GT is going to need an advantage and its style could be it.
The Audi RS e-tron GT is the top-end, ultra-high-performance model that comes with over 600 horsepower (thanks to a temporary overboost function) and can get form 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds. So it’s not only better looking than its competitors, it’s just as quick. Well, mostly. The most extreme Model S variants can actually hit 60 mph in the mid two-second range. However, the 3.1 seconds Audi claims is just that — a claimed time. Audis are famous for being quicker in the real world than their claimed times suggest. So it’s possible that the RS e-tron GT can get closer to the fastest Teslas than claimed. Especially considering that the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is actually quicker.
So, overall, the Audi e-tron GT might not be the absolute best electric sedan on the market, with its slightly lower range, but it’s still damn good and looks absolutely fantastic.
