VIDEO: Here’s What an Audi RS Q7 Might Have Been Like

Despite it being Audi’s first SUV, the Q7 has never had a proper performance version. Sure, there was the V12 TDI variant of the first-gen Q7 but that wasn’t a proper Audi Sport product, such as the new RS Q8. However, what if Audi did make one? I imagine it would be something like this.

 

In this new video from Auditography, we get to see a tuned Audi SQ7, pushing out 550 horsepower and 590 lb-ft (800  Nm) of torque from its 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8. It also gets an upgraded downpipe and new exhaust from MG Motorsport. It doesn’t have quite the horsepower of its V8-powered Audi RS siblings (591 horsepower) but it’s close. It does have the same torque, though.

 

According to this video, this tuned pseudo Audi RS Q7 can hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, making it about as quick as the Audi RS Q8.

This exact car looks and sounds fantastic. The Sepang Blue exterior color, along with the black accents and black exhausts, gives it such a special look. Personally, I like the Q7 over the Q8, in terms of design, as I’m also quite pragmatic and appreciate its added practicality. So the idea of an Audi RS Q7 makes more sense to me than an SQ8, which makes me like this car a lot.

 

Its exhaust is great, too. Audi’s stock V8 already sounds really good, so I was nervous the exhaust would ruin the sound. To be fair to myself, most new exhaust systems sound overly boomy and artificial, especially on turbocharged engines. However, this one sounds great, as it just enhances the natural sound of the engine; a deep, guttural growl.

 

If Audi ever does end up making an RS Q7, it’ll almost certainly be electric. There’s no sense in making a gas-powered RS Q7 now. So there’s no chance we’ll ever see such a car made in the future. However, if you’ve always wanted one, it  seems quite simple to start out with an SQ7 and easily tune it up to RS Q8 levels of power. Add some stickier tires and a better exhaust and call it a day.
