Right out of the box, without any modifications, the current Audi R8 V10 is a monster performance car. With 610 hp from its 5.2 liter naturally-aspirated V10, the stock R8 is capable of hitting 60 mph in less than three seconds and a top speed that breaths on 200 mph. So it’s a remarkably fast car. However, what would happen if you slapped two turbos to it?
Hennessey Performance is known for making some astonishingly powerful and fast cars. Their tuning kits are among the most intense in the industry. While they’re most famous for their work on American performance cars, such as Corvettes and Camaros, they do European supercars as well. In this specific instance, they put two turbochargers on the typically free-breathing V10 to bump it up to 750 horsepower to the wheels.
While the standard R8 is rated at 610 hp, that rating is at the crankshaft. At the wheels, it’s a bit less than that. So if the Hennessey car can put 750 hp to the actual tarmac, it will be significantly faster than stock.
In this new video, we get to see just how fast it is — and it picks up speed a a remarkable rate — as well as listening to its intoxicating array of noises. The standard V10 is one of the best sounding engines on the market but adding two turbochargers, waste-gate noise and a better exhaust and the Audi R8 begins to create a symphony of internal-combustion noise. It’s glorious.
What’s nice is that, according to Hennessey, this tuning kit doesn’t affect the way it drives. So it’s still as comfortable and livable as a daily driver, just one with enough power to demolish anything else on the road.
Personally, I can’t see why anyone would need more power and/or performance from an Audi R8. Having said that, even I can see the immense appeal of having and R8 that can do what the Hennessey one car, while making the sorts of noises that it can, too.
