The Audi e-tron is an important car for the brand, as it’s the first-ever all-electric car Audi has ever made. It’s also the car that Audi is trying to use to pull mainstream buyers over to electromobility with. Which is why the e-tron looks like a normal Audi SUV, has a normal Audi SUV interior and feels like a normal Audi SUV. That might not sound so exciting but it seems to be exciting enough for former Formula One champion Nico Rosberg.
In this new video from Rosberg’s YouTube channel, he checks out the Audi e-tron while in Monaco and even takes it through the same tunnel famously used in the F1 course. Despite the fact that the e-tron is a bit slow for Rosberg’s tastes, doing 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds, he seems to like the car quite a bit. Sure, 5.7 seconds is pretty slow, even for an SUV of its size and power, but it’s fast enough that it doesn’t feel bogged down. Its performance isn’t a hindrance, it’s just nothing too special. And as Rosberg notes, that’s not what the e-tron was designed for and it’s more than quick enough for daily driving.
So while the Audi e-tron might seem unexceptional in certain ways, that’s exactly the point and Rosberg seems to understand that better than most journalists and reviewers. The e-tron is designed to replace your gasoline or diesel SUV without any learning curve. As he mentions, it feels like a normal Audi and requires no change in your driving at all.
So if you’re looking to get an electric car but are a bit apprehensive about they way they drive, the Audi e-tron could be for you. And if you’re one to think that the e-tron is too slow or not exciting enough, if it’s good enough for Nico Rosberg, it’s good enough for you.
