The Audi RS3 and Volkswagen Golf R are two of the hottest hatches on the planet and are based on the same platform. But which is better?
Well, that’s exactly what EVO Magazine decided to find out. By pitting them against each other on a track, the folks at EVO were able to tell which was faster and which was more fun to drive. That last bit is the more important metric by which to measure these two cars, as unless you’re putting food on your table with race winnings, run on-road manners are more important than lap times.
The Audi RS3 has a distinct advantage on the track, have 60 more horsepower and a more clever all-wheel drive system, capable of sending up to 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels. While the Golf R does have considerably less power, it’s also quite a bit lighter and a bit more nimble. The Audi RS3 is $10,000 more than the Golf R, but is it $10,000 better? That’s a tough question to answer, but EVO is ready to find out.
In the end, the results are far closer than you’d think and might surprise you. Check the video out and see which car is better.
