VIDEO: Doug DeMuro Checks Out the Audi S8

When we last spent time with an Audi A8, we were impressed by its luxury, its technology and its ride. So, naturally, the 591 horsepower version intrigues us even more. If you’re like us and want to get behind the wheel of an Audi S8, check out this new video review from Doug DeMuro, in which he tests the new S8 from top to bottom.

The S8 is Audi’s most expensive luxury model, so you can imagine that it’s loaded to the brim with tech. And it is. However, it never seems as showy or as flashy as its rival, the Mercedes-AMG S63. It seems more reserved, subtler, for better or worse. Sit inside an S63 and you’re met with an interior that could hang on the wall of a modern art gallery. Inside the Audi S8, however, you’re met with something far simpler, even if it’s every bit as well made and luxurious.

Same goes for the power. While the Audi S8 does make 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, from its 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, it never delivers it in quite the same manner the S63 does. Nor does it sound as ferocious.

As Doug points out, though, that’s not really a bad thing. The Audi S8 seems like more of a sleeper, a car for people that know and only people that know. To the unsuspecting, it’s just another Audi sedan, as it doesn’t have the flashy style of any of its competitors. Put your foot down, though, and it’s still very fast, fast enough to surprise the sports car next to you at the stop light.

All the while, it has enough luxury and technology features inside to make it a rolling butler for its passengers. So don’t think of the S8 as some sort of high-strung super sedan. Instead, it’s Audi’s ultimate luxury vehicle that just so happens to have weapons-grade firepower under the hood.
