Video: CNET drives 2015 Audi S8

The current generation A8 model line is on its way out quite soon. Audi is currently working on a new A8 that will be far more technologically advanced and attempt to trump the current Mercedes-Benz S Class and brand-new BMW 7 Series. But for now, the current A8 model line is still and excellent luxury car and all of its variants still compete for top of the class.

The S8 is Audi’s go-fast variant of the A8 and packs a whopping 520 hp from a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged TFSI V8. All of that power is sent through an eight-speed ZF-sourced automatic to all four wheels via Audi’s heralded Quattro system. This allows the S8 launch from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and on to a 155 mph limited top speed. It also comes with such luxuries and an air-suspension, 3G satellite navigation and massaging seats. It’s the ultimate in luxury cruising.

CNET, a company known for reviewing electronics, recently tested the Audi S8 in its latest Car Tech video. Wayne Cunningham, the CNET journalist, tests the S8 on a variety of different roads and comes away with some interesting impressions. On the highway, the S8 is a comfortable and solid cruiser. It’s incredibly powerful and surprisingly agile for its size. The massaging seats are also a bonus. But he did mention that the S8 felt a bit too busy in Dynamic Mode and even in Comfort Mode was slightly too stiff over rough pavement. Odd for a car with air-suspension.

The S8 is one of the best full-sized luxury performance cars on the market, despite its age. The S8 Plus has recently been announced and that’s like an S8 turned up to 11. But until we get the S8 Plus, check out this video of the standard Audi S8.
