One of the absolute best cars from the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show was the Audi AI:TRAIL Concept. In fact, it’s one of the coolest concept cars we’ve seen in a very long time. In a nutshell, the AI:TRAIL is a fully-electric, potentially self-driving off-road buggy from the future and it’s awesome. In this video from Auto Motor und Sport, we get to take an up close and personal look at the AI:TRAIL and all of its unique features.
For starters, the Audi AI:TRAIL is entirely electric and houses four electric motors, one for each wheel. Never has there been an Audi with an all-wheel drive system more deserving of the Quattro badge. It also features a monocoque chassis lifted on top of tall suspension and massive tires, so it’s extremely capable off-road. It also gets massive windows, all the way around, giving it excellent outward visibility. Thole point of the AI:TRAIL is to experience nature in its fullest without hurting the environment as you traverse it.
Some of its details are just awesome and you can see them up close in this new video. Some of which are simply out of the future, like the roof mounted drones that double as lights. In theory, they can fly above and ahead of the Audi AI:TRAIL , autonomously, illuminated the route ahead. That’s space-age awesomeness. There are also Paracord-like ropes for interior grab handles, binoculars mounted to the headliner and flashlights mounted throughout. So it’s a properly equipped all-terrain vehicle.
Admittedly, the video is in German but the subtitles work well enough for this to be an informative and enjoyable video, even if you don’t speak German. But this video is more about seeing the Audi AI:TRAIL up close and personal and getting to see all of the little features that you couldn’t from the auto show.
