VIDEO: Check Out the All-New Audi RS6 Avant featured on Carwow

A few weeks back, journalists had the chance to drive the all-new Audi RS6 Avant in Malibu, California. Unfortunately, we weren’t on hand but there were a ton of European journalists there to drive the new RS6 and Carwow’s Mat Watson was one of them. In this new video, we get to check out the RS6 Avant on American soil for the first time.

Before we get into what Watson thinks about the new Audi RS6 Avant, can we just talk about how cool it is that he’s driving one in California. It marks the first time in history that a journalist was driving an Audi RS Avant model in the ‘States. What an awesome moment.

As for what Watson thinks, it seems that he likes the RS6 quite a lot. For starters, he really likes the way it looks and we’re with him. The Audi RS6 Avant is easily the best looking of the fast luxury cars on the market, wagon or otherwise. It’s just so aggressive looking, with its massive air vents and bulging hood. While most of its front air vents are fake, Audi reps claim that they tried it with real vents but it was actually aerodynamically worse that way. So while they’re fake, they get a pass because the car looks so good and it wouldn’t make sense for them to be real.

Inside, there’s a ton of space in the back seat for passengers and enough trunk space for a big dog. It might not have as much trunk space as an AMG E63 S Estate but it’s more than enough. Plus, the Audi RS6 Avant looks better, so that trade off in luggage space is welcome.

Under the hood is Audi’s all-new 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8, which makes it the only V8-powered car in the A6 family. That monster V* makes 591 hp (600 PS) and 590 lb-ft of torque. Audi claims 3.8 seconds to 60 mph but Watson wasn’t able to test it on the twisty Californian roads. Forget the numbers, though, the RS6 if damn quick.

According to Watson, the Audi RS6 Avant is also a monster in the corners. Turn-in is sharp and its rear-wheel steering helps it feel smaller than it is. It also stays remarkably flat and its composure gets even better with speed. Combine its athleticism with Quattro all-wheel drive grip and monster power and the RS6 simply fires out of corners with shocking speed. Watson almost gets sick after snaking it through some very twisty roads. It’s a serious performance machine.

We can’t wait to drive the Audi RS6 Avant for ourselves. For now, though, we’ll just have to watch videos like these. Check it out.
