It’s always fun to go some online classifieds and see what sort of used, old supercars are in your budget. Sometimes it’s tempting to see an old Ferrari or Aston Martin for sale for the same price as a new Audi A4. You start to question yourself and wonder if it’s actually worth investing in that old supercar. “Would it make sense to own the old Ferrari over the new A4?” or “Who knows, maybe it’ll be worth even more one day.” But buying an old supercar is never a wise financial move, as they depreciate faster than Donald Trump’s Mexican reputation and will likely cost a fortune in repairs within just the first year or two of ownership.
So what are you to do if you have some extra cash and want to buy something fast and fun but won’t kill you and your wallet over time? Well, Carfection seems to think you can buy an Audi S3.
While the Audi S3 isn’t as exciting or as exotic as some old Italian V12 upercar. But it is fast, it is fun and it’s reliable and comes with a warranty. Okay, so an Audi S3 isn’t very exciting to look at and it’s only just a small sedan with a four-cylinder engine. However, that four-cylinder is turbocharged and makes 306 hp. That means it’s capable of 0-60 mph in around 4.5 seconds, making it faster than some V8 Ferraris of the ’90s. So you wouldn’t be losing anything at all, in terms of performance, by going with the Audi S3.
Also, it’s far more comfortable on the inside. Supercars are cramped, uncomfortable and hard to see out of. The Audi S3 is comfortable, seats four adults and has great interior technology. So there’s not really a lot of compromise for performance going on, here. In fact, the cabin of the Audi S3 is actually better than some current supercars.
Then there’s the fact that you don’t have to baby the S3. A classic supercar needs to be pampered, so it holds its value and stays working. An Audi S3 is brand-new and can be driven hard and beaten on, without fear of depreciation or unreliability. That means you can actually use your car and not just look at it in your garage.
While the Audi S3 isn’t the most exciting car in the world and not even the best performing car in its price range, it’s still a great performance value. And, for the money, you’re definitely better off getting one of these than an old supercar.
