Carwow isn’t afraid to group unusual cars together for a drag race. In this latest video, Carwow’s Mat Watson pits the Audi TT RS against a Volkswagen Golf R (a sibling rivalry), a Porsche Cayman GT4, and a Lamborghini Urus. Not exactly the most apples-to-apples drag race we’ve ever seen but it’s more interesting than it seems. That’s because they each have their own strengths and weaknesses.
The Audi TT RS makes 400 horsepower from its 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder and gets all-wheel drive grip. While the Volkswagen Golf R makes 320 horsepower from its 2.0 liter turbo-four and also has all-wheel drive. The Porsche Cayman GT4 gets 420 horsepower from its 4.0 liter naturally-aspirated flat-six but is only rear-wheel drive. Lastly, the Lamborghini Urus uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 to make 650 horsepower and is also all-wheel drive. The fun part of the test is the, in terms of cylinder count, it goes 4 (VW), 5 (Audi), 6 (Porsche), and 8 (Lamborghini).
It would seem like, at first, the Lamborghini was far too powerful for the bunch. However, the Urus is by far and away the heaviest car of the bunch. The Audi and Porsche have the same curb weight; the Porsche’s advantage is its power and the Audi’s advantage is its all-wheel drive grip. The Volkswagen had no chance, really but its price makes it an incredible value. So how did the race go down?
Watson was in the Porsche (we don’t blame him) and honestly was hoping to get second place. There was no way the Lamborghini Urus was losing that test. It’s just too insanely fast to lose to anything with under 600 horsepower. So, really, it was a battle for second place between the Audi TT RS and the Porsche Cayman GT4. Which one was quicker on the day? Have a watch and find out, it’s worth your time.
