There are few cars on Earth that can challenge the unholy exhaust note of an Audi R8. Its screaming 5.2 liter V10 engine is a thing of joy and makes some of the most incredible noises. However, one car that can challenge it also comes from Audi. Just decades earlier — the Audi Ur Quattro.
The original Audi Quattro is a brilliant car; one that still looks great, goes like hell and makes a sensational noise. That’s because what’s under its hood is a 2.2 liter turbocharged I5 engine that makes the craziest off-beat growl. It’s just incredible and shockingly fast.
In this new video from Auditography, we get to see both cars do a bit of a hill climb and we get to see/hear how amazing they are. While the Audi R8 sports modern-day exotic looks and a high-tech, high-strung engine, the Audi Ur Quattro is very different.
It uses an inline five-cylinder engine that sports a turbocharger, is much smaller and lighter and also just so happens to be one of the best rally cars ever. So rather than having a high-pitched, high-string wail, the Audi Quattro makes an angry, odd-sounding growl. It’s also surprisingly punchy, thanks to that large turbocharger. Though, to drive it quick and you’ll soon realize that it’s so much more than an engine.
In this new video, we get to see both cars climb the alps and it’s quite spectacular to see. The Audi Quattro looks the part of a rally car and the Audi R8 V10 looks like an exotic supercar. So both cars are very different and serve different needs, making them almost entirely incompatible. However, if you gave me the option for just one set of keys to either of these cars, which would I take for the weekend? The Audi Quattro hands down.
