Audi has dropped a short presentation clip for the optional Bang & Olufsen audio system inside the A4 B9. Available for both sedan and Avant models, the premium high fidelity audio setup is available at an additional cost and comes with an extra four loudspeakers, with two each mounted in the dashboard and the A pillars to enable what Audi describes as being a 3D sound with music that “conveys a genuine concert-hall feeling.”
Audi has developed this new technology in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Erlangen and what it does is use the information from the stereo or 5.1 recordings and then it calculates the third dimension which will then be processed for those extra speakers. With a total of 19 loudspeakers and 755-watt of power, the Bang & Olufsen sound system should be a worthy upgrade to the new A4 B9 taking into account that it also comes with a 16-channel amplifier.
Audi mentions the speakers adopt a newly developed design with aluminum strips that blend in with the rest of the lines inside the A4’s cabin. Moreover, there are white fiber optics which illuminate the base drivers in the front doors.
Pricing for this optional Bang & Olufsen audio system has not been disclosed, but we remind you the one in the previous A4 (B8) was available for €950 in Germany.
