VIDEO: Audi S8 vs Mercedes-Benz S-Class vs BMW 7 Series

The current-gen Audi A8 is a great luxury car, and an underappreciated one too, but it is getting a bit old now. A facelifted update is on the way but, until then, the A8 is probably a bit too old to take on its newer competitors, such as the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series. Although, in this new video from Carwow, the A8 that takes those cars on is the one best suited to represent the model lineup — the Audi S8.

In this video, the newest Audi S8 takes on the Mercedes-Benz S500 and BMW 745Le xDrive. The S500 is the big straight-six-powered version of the S-Class and the 745Le is the long-wheelbase hybrid version of the 7 Series. Though, don’t turn your nose at the BMW, as the hybrid 7 Series packs a powerful straight-six with additional hybrid power, so it’s actually quite quick.

But can the aging Audi S8 really take on its newer rivals, especially the S-Class, which is brand-spanking new and packs far superior technology?

It actually does better than we thought it would, a lot better. It’s not quite as luxurious as the S-Class but, because it’s an Audi S8, it makes up for that by being much faster, more enjoyable to drive, and, shockingly having an overall ride that at least matches the big new Benz. Its tech is a bit out of date compared to the S-Class’ but it’s still very good, and it’s interior is lovely.

The Audi S8 also beats up on the 7 Series. Not only is it better looking, it features a more interesting interior design, superior driving dynamics, far better performance, a better ride, better tech, and less interior road and wind noise. So despite the newly facelifted 7 Series being a bit newer than the S8, it’s the Audi that actually beats it in almost all areas. But is it good enough to beat the Benz? Find out in this new video.
