VIDEO: Audi S8 Plus vs Porsche Panamera Turbo Drag Race

The newly released Audi S8 Plus doesn’t actually have much competition, as there aren’t many cars of similar size and luxury that can actually keep up with it. There are only a couple of cars on the market that can even stay within in a car length of the S8 Plus and they’re the BMW M760i xDrive and the Porsche Panamera Turbo. The latter has the displeasure of having to drag race the Audi S8 Plus. I say displeasure because the race doesn’t end well for the Porsche.

Top Gear Poland got these two monster luxury sedans together for a drag race to see which is faster. Before the race, we get a taste of the exhaust notes of both cars, which both sound epic. The Audi S8 Plus makes more of a guttural, burbly roar, like an angry bear. However, the Porsche makes a racier howl, while still having so bass to it. Both sound great, though.

The Audi S8 Plus uses a 605 hp version of Audi’s famousĀ 4.0 twin-turbocharged TFSI V8 and puts power through an eight-speed ZF automatic to all four wheels, via Quattro. The Porsche Panamera uses a 4.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 520 hp, a significant disadvantage to the Audi.

Then they take off and the Audi S8 Plus simply walks away from the Porsche. I wish I could write something hyperbolic about the way the race begins, but it really isn’t any more complicated than the S8 Plus just walking away from the Porsche. Both use their all-wheel drive traction to launch off the line really well, but the Audi S8 Plus, despite having the smaller engine, immediately takes the lead and never relinquishes it. In fact, it keeps accelerating faster than the Porsche and increases its lead consistently until the race is over.

While it’s pretty obvious that the more powerful car won, it’s still cool to watch the might of the Audi S8 Plus, as before its existence, it was the Porsche Panamera Turbo that was considered to be one of the baddest cars on the planet. Well now it’s the Audi S8 Plus.
