VIDEO: Audi S4 Avant vs BMW M340i vs Volvo V60 T8

Among daily sports wagons, the Audi S4 Avant is considered to be one of the best. It’s fast, fun, looks great and can fit a ton of stuff in the back. However, there are some other genuinely great cars in the segment, for similar money. In fact, the S4 Avant’s performance may actually be losing its competitive edge. In this new video from Carwow, we see the S4 Avant take on the BMW M340i Touring and Volvo V60 T8.

The Audi S4 Avant is the diesel version, with its 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine, it makes 347 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. While the BMW M340i uses a 3.0 liter turbocharged I6 engine that makes 374 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. Lastly, the Volvo V60 T8 uses a 2.0 liter twin-charged (turbo and supercharged) four-cylinder engine and an electric motor at the rear axle, combining to make 387 horsepower and 472 lb-ft.

All three cars are all-wheel drive; the Audi S4 Avant gets proper Quattro, the BMW M340i gets xDrive and the Volvo’s is thanks to its engine driving the front wheels and electric motor driving the rear wheels.

So which is the fastest in a straight-line drag race?

In every single drag race test in this video, the BMW absolutely destroys the other two cars. We’ve driven the M340i several times and it’s so much faster than its numbers claim. We don’t know what BMW is feeding its horses but they seem to be stronger than everyone else’s.

The Audi S4 Avant beat out the Volvo in most tests, while also winning the brake test outright. While we think the gasoline-powered Audi S4 Avant would have done a bit better, it still would have lost to the M340i, as that car is shockingly fast.

In the ‘States, if you want a wagon version of any of these cars, you’re only option is the Volvo, though. Neither the BMW nor the Audi come in their wagon forms here. Thankfully, the Volvo is the best looking of the three by far.
