VIDEO: Audi RS6 Avant vs Mercedes-AMG E63 Wagon

In North America, we might get as many kick-ass wagons as the European market does. However, we do get two incredible performance wagons and, potentially, the best two. In this video, we get to see which of those two is best; the Audi RS6 Avant or the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon.

Both cars have similar formulas. They both use 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8s, automatic transmissions (eight-speed for the Audi and nine-speed for the AMG) and both have all-wheel drive. The AMG is more powerful, with 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, while the Audi RS6 Avant only makes 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft.

That power difference is noticeable at the drag strip, where the AMG handily beats the Audi. However, it seems as if Audi is intentionally holding its engine back, awaiting further performance models. In this video, they actually do a quick ECU tune to the RS6, which only takes a few minutes and is entirely done via software, and the results are drastic. In fact, just a simple tune gives the RS6 more than 800 horsepower and it simply runs away from the AMG as if it were standing still. It’s actually alarming, just how quick it became with just a simple tune. Audi’s twin-turbo V8 has far more potential that Audi lets on.

Both cars are great to drive on track, too, but it’s the AMG that’s the tail-happy, hooligan of the two. Though, the Audi RS6 Avant is far better on track than previous RS6s and, to be honest, all other Audi Sport cars that aren’t the R8.

In the end, both cars are absolutely incredible and have the ability to take down race tracks as well as bring families on road trips. When it comes to duality, these two cars might be the best two cars on the market. Thankfully, both are available in North America.
