In North America, there are really only two options if you want a high-performance wagon; the Audi RS6 Avant and Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon. Both cars are immensely powerful, both have fantastic interiors, and both wear very expensive sticker prices. But which one is better?
Both high-caliber wagons go head-to-head in this new video from The Straight Pipes and it’s genuinely difficult to pick a winner, as both cars are so good to drive. But there has to be a winner, so which monster wagon is best?
The Audi RS6 Avant is clearly the better looking car. That’s not a knock on the AMG, which is also a great looking car, it’s just that the RS6 looks better than most sedans or wagons. However, we’d say that the AMG’s interior is far better looking, with so much more drama and excitement, compared to the rather drab Audi cabin.
On the road, it really comes down to what you want out of each car. They both have air suspension as standard (the RS6 comes with an optional Dynamic Ride Control that makes it much sharper to drive) but the Audi is more comfortable, while the AMG is more engaging. So if you want a more relaxed, yet still seriously fast, wagon, the Audi RS6 Avant is probably more your speed. However, if you want improved handling dynamics, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S is probably for you.
The AMG’s engine is a bit more exciting as well, with a better exhaust note and a bit more power. The Audi RS6 is still loud and exciting, and still packs a wallop, but it’s not as charismatic as the AMG’s hand-built V8.
Overall, the hosts from The Straight Pipes chose the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon as the car they’d prefer. However, they’d actually choose the older, pre-facelift model over both cars, ironically.
