The new Audi RS6 Avant is the four-ringed brand’s newest performance car and it’s the one that has fans drooling. Its stunning good looks, wagon body style and twin-turbocharged V8 power make it one of the best daily driving performance machines on the planet. But it’s not alone in that regard, as there are some other incredible performance machines in the same segment as the RS6. So Carwow put them all together to see which which is the fastest.
In this new video, we see the RS6 Avant take on the BMW M5 Competition, Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate and Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sport Turismo in four different tests. First up was a standing drag race, followed by two rolling drag races (one in Comfort mode and one starting in third gear), ending with a 60-0 mph brake test.
So which of these uber performance machines is the best performer? First, let’s take a look at each car.
The Audi RS6 Avant uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 591 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The AMG uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 with 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. While the Porsche Panamera uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 paired with an electric motor to make 680 hp and 626 lb-ft of torque. As for the BMW M5 Competition, it packs a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 with 625 ho and 553 lb-ft.
Each car weighs more than two tons, with the exception of the BMW M5, which is just under. The Audi and AMG are just over two tons and the Porsche is almost two and a half tons. That gives the M5 the best power-to-weight ratio but it’s also the only car in the test that isn’t a wagon.
So which car is fastest? Well, the BMW M5 Competition dominates in each and every test. It’s the fastest in every drag race by far and even wins the braking test. While the Audi RS6 Avant takes last place in each and every test. Admittedly, the RS6 is the least powerful car and one of the heaviest. Plus, each of its other competitors are their highest-performance version, while the RS6 is still its base model and there’s a higher-performance car in the works.
Still, it’s shocking just how fast the BMW M5 is. Having spent a lot of time in the M5, I can personally attest to its brilliance. It really is an astonishing car. I haven’t driven the Audi RS6 Avant just yet but it’s going to have to drive as fantastically as it looks to beat the M5.
