As cool as the Audi RS6 Avant is, it also has a lot of great competition. Cars like the BMW 8 Gran Coupe, Porsche Panamera Turbo E S Hybrid and Mercedes-AMG E63 S wagon are all excellent performance luxury machines. But among those cars, which one is the fastest? In this new video from Carwow, we get to find out.
In this test, all four of those cars lined up up at the drag strip set for a quarter-mile drag race. Carwow’s Mat Watson drove the M8 Gran Coupe and took on the rest of the cars. All cars in the test have twin-turbocharged V8s with around 600 horsepower and they’re all all-wheel drive. So grip and power wasn’t an issue for any of them.
However, some cars were simply faster than other. For instance, the BMW and the AMG fired off the line far quicker than the Porsche or the Audi. In fact, the Audi RS6 Avant flat-out lagged behind the rest of them in this test, watching as the other cars pulled car lengths on it until the race was over.
In the standing quarter-mile, the RS6 Avant was by far the slowest of the bunch. It ran the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds, while the Porsche and AMG both did it in 11.1 seconds and the BMW ran an astonishing 10.8 seconds. The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is an incredibly rapid machine.
The Audi RS6 Avant won not a single test; not the standing quarter, not the rolling drag race, not the third gear rolling drag race, nor the 60-0 mph braking test. In fact, not only did it not win a single test, it was dead last in every single one.
However, despite that, Watson still loves the RS6 Avant and it’s hard not to. It’s a stunning looking performance wagon that has a fantastic interior, great handling and a ton of practicality. Not to mention the fact that 11.6 seconds in the quarter-mile is still really, really fast. It’s just not fast enough for this insane competition.
