VIDEO: Audi RS6 Avant — Better Than the Mercedes-AMG E63 Wagon?

The Audi RS6 Avant is almost impossible to beat, as far as daily performance machines go. Not only is it immensely fast but it’s also practical, thanks to the wagon body style. In reality, there’s really only one other car on the market that can truly challenge the RS6 and, admittedly, it’s damn tough to beat — the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon. In this new video from The Straight Pipes, we get to see if the RS6 has what it takes to tackle its German rival.

On paper, the Audi RS6 Avant is at a disadvantage. Its 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 only makes 591 horsepower and 591 lb-ft of torque, compared to the AMG’s 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft. The AMG is also a few tenths of a second faster to 60 mph. However, none of that matters as much once you feel just has fast the RS6 is in the real world. While it’s not quite as fast as the AMG, you’ll never tell in the real world.

The Audi RS6 Avant is also shockingly good to drive. It grips exceptionally well, can corner far better than a car of its size and weight should be able to, and is still comfortable. As a daily driving performance car, it’s every bit as capable as the iconic AMG.

Though, the AMG does have a few advantages, namely in the interior department. The cabin of the AMG E63 is stylish and exciting in ways that the RS6 just can’t match. While the Audi’s interior is great; with a good looking design and top-notch materials; it just can’t match the AMG’s sheer theater.

To figure out which one is best for you, it probably comes down to what you want. The AMG E63 is the more brash, more exciting car of the two, while the Audi RS6 Avant is a bit calmer, a bit more comfortable, and a bit better looking. So you really just have to figure out which one is best for you but both are fantastic.
