The first generation Audi R8 V10 was a fast car, with its 520 horsepower and all. The GT variant was even faster, with its power bump and lighter weight. In the R8 GT V10, 0-60 mph happens in under four seconds and has a top speed of near 200 mph. It’s mighty, no doubt. But of course it would be, it’s a supercar and all supercars are mighty. But what’s even mightier than a supercar is a hypercar (the car naming world is a bit cheesy) and that’s what the Koenigsegg One:1 is…
Koenigsegg is a small maker of absolute monster speed machines from Sweden. It makes some of the most hardcore hypercars ever to be built and each one is a masterpiece. Its latest creation, the One:1, is named as such because it has a power:weight ratio of 1:1. 1,340 horsepower to 1,340 kilograms (2,954 lbs). That’s absolutely insane, as it weighs around the same as a Ford Fiesta, yet packs more horsepower than a Bugatti Veyron. That makes the Audi R8 GT V10 seem like a toy.
Well to add insult to injury to the Audi R8, a couple of enthusiasts, well-off enthusiasts that is, took to the race track to see how the two cars stacked up. At first, you’d say that this isn’t a fair fight. And you’d be right. The only possible advantage for the Audi R8 is its all-wheel drive, which will help in traction at launch, because close races are won at the launch. The Koenigsegg must make do with rear-wheel drive and that can be tricky to put 1,340 hp through. But aside from the launch, the R8 has no chance.
When the two cars first take off, it actually seems as if the R8 has it, launching hard thanks to its Quattro all-wheel drive. It actually holds the lead for a bit, while the Koenigsegg turns its rear tires to dust. But that lead eventually diminishes and quickly, as the One:1 explodes to life with a tidal wave of power and sends it flying past the R8 as if it were a standing object. The R8 is left in its dust. Now, the crazy thing is watching how much the Koenigsegg wins by. The Audi R8 isn’t a slow car and it’s already moving at a fast pace, likely close to 100 mph, before the Koenigsegg really takes off. But even at that speed, the One:1 is able to absolutely rocket past the Audi R8 and put what seems like a mile between the two. This wasn’t a beating, it was an annihilation.
We love the Audi R8 here at QuattroDaily, but it just had its day ruined by a plucky Swede.
