VIDEO: Audi Q8 gets reviewed by CarBuyer

Stylish, coupe-like SUVs are becoming increasingly popular these days. I remember when the BMW X6 first debuted, as the world’s first coupe SUV, and the world’ automotive journalists collectively groaned, claiming such a car to be pointless and one that would never catch on. Now, brands like Mercedes-Benz and Audi have jumped into this segment, with the Audi Q8 being the newest addition, which we get to see in this new video from CarBuyer.

The Audi Q8 is the brand’s newest SUV and it’s also the most stylish. Though, Audi has done something clever with the Q8, by giving it sportier, more aggressive styling than a standard SUV while also keeping its practical roofline mostly intact. Cars like the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class have aggressively sloping rooflines, which drastically eat into rear headroom and trunk space. The Audi Q8, though, has a more traditional roofline that provides more than enough rear seat headroom for even six-foot-plus passengers. Trunk space is also really good, even if it’s not as good as the Audi Q7’s.

Inside the Audi Q8, you’re met with a lovely interior, that features some incredibly comfortable seats (which CarBuyer’s Ginny Buckley seems to enjoy quite a bit), slick technology and premium materials. The only downside, according to Buckley, is that the new MMI’s touchscreen can get very fingerprint-y. If that bothers you, though, the Audi Q8’s new Virtual Cockpit system, shared with the new A6, A7 and A8, is superb and can control all of the car’s media and navigation without having to take your hands off the steering wheel.

As far as how the Q8 drives, it’s not as sporty as it looks. It’s plenty capable, with tons of Quattro grip and surprising agility. It also stays relatively flat through corners and has accurate steering. So if you want to chuck it around, it’s going to be more fun than your traditional SUVs, like the Audi Q7. However, it’s never quite as engaging as the BMW X6, which did invent the segment after all. In defense of the Audi Q8, though, it looks a helluva lot better than the X6.

So, as a whole, the Audi Q8 is a very stylish, comfortable, luxurious and high-tech SUV that’s nice to drive and nice to be in. It’s a bit expensive but it offers a lot of SUV for the money.
