After seeing the new 2019 Audi Q3 in person at the NY Auto Show, I have to say that I was extremely impressed with its interior. Not because it’s ultra high-end but because it’s more high-end than we expected at its price range. It’s not alone, though. It has some seriously tough competition, as the entire segment is moving more upmarket. And they’re driving better and better as well.
In this new video from Autocar, we get to take a look at which new small premium crossover is best: the Audi Q3, Range Rover Evoque or the Volvo XC40.
Those two other cars are clearly the Q3’s toughest competition. The XC40 is over a year old now but it’s still a very fresh, very modern looking car, while the Evoque is all-new and incredibly impressive. All of which also have very nice interiors which, let’s face it, will be the reason why customers buy one over another. According to Autocar, though, the Range Rover has the nicest cabin and we can’t argue that.
As far as actually driving the things go, the Audi Q3 is the outlier of the group. It’s the only one that tries to be sporty or dynamic, while the Volvo and the Range Rover are more focused on being comfortable and refined. However, in that endeavor, the Range Rover wins again. While the Q3 is a bit more agile and dynamic that the Range Rover, it’s also stiffer and less comfortable while also being noisier inside.
In the end, Autocar named the Audi Q3 as the worst of the three. It sacrifices too much in the name of just a little bit of extra agility, so it ends up being the least pleasant to drive. It does have its merits, like a nice interior, great technology and the largest trunk. But it can’t match the driving refinement of either the Volvo or the Range Rover Evoque and it’s the latter of which that is the best.
