By now, we’ve seen quite a few reviews of the Audi e-tron, the brand’s first all-electric SUV. We’ve even tested it ourselves and came away impressed. Still, it’s always good to see what other publications have to say, especially one as established as Autocar. In this new video review, we get to take a look at the Audi e-tron and see what Autocar’s Matt Prior has to say.
The Audi e-tron is an interesting electric car because it’s one that tries really hard to not seem like an electric car. Take every other EV SUV, be it the Tesla Model X or Jaguar I-Pace, for example. They all shout their electric nature as loud as they can. Not the e-tron, though. Instead, the e-tron is quietly stating that electric mobility can be for everyone, even those who don’t love EVs.
Prior seems impressed with how it looks and drives. He seems to think it’s a handsome car and we agree. While it’s not as jaw-dropping as the Jaguar I-Pace or as funky as the Model X, it’s a very handsome and premium looking SUV. Same goes for the interior. While it doesn’t have the futuristic sports car vibe from the I-Pace, it’s the cabin of a very luxurious, traditional SUV and that’s also good in its own way. It’s also shockingly quiet on the inside.
While it might not be the most engaging car to drive, it’s nice and comfortable, which is right where it wants to be. It’s not slow, though, as Prior mentions it’s almost as quick as a Honda Civic Type R. Of course, it’s nowhere near as fun to drive as the Type R but being almost as quick as one of the very best hot-hatches on sale is a compliment.
Overall, the Audi e-tron seems to impress Prior. It’s a good car that might not be as thrilling as other EV SUVs but it’s still a very well-rounded luxury SUV that’s nice to drive.
