Audi is in an interesting spot with its e-tron GT. On one hand, it’s a stunning looking, fast-driving, electric grand touring car. On the other, it’s just the Porsche Taycan’s little sibling that’s not quite as fast or as capable on the road. Which is why we were very excited to see Piston Heads put both cars head-to-head in this new video.
In this video, we see the standard Audi e-tron GT take on the Porsche Taycan 4S. While neither car is its model’s performance variant; the RS e-tron GT and Taycan Turbo, respectively; they’re both more representative of what most customers will actually buy. So is the e-tron GT just a cut-rate Taycan or is there a real reason to choose it instead?
Despite sharing the same chassis, having essentially the same powertrain, and the same battery packs, the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan 4S feel remarkably different on the road. They’re both shockingly fast, especially for cars as heavy as they are, but they both have very distinct driving dynamics.
The Porsche Taycan is very typical Porsche; sharp steering, tight body control, and immense precision. If you want a proper super sedan, one that can out-handle sports cars while also having four doors and four seats, the Taycan is likely the better option. While the Audi e-tron GT is a bit more relaxed, less precise, and ever-so-slightly more comfortable. It’s still capable, and gets immensely high praise for its handling while in any other company, but it’s just not as sharp as the Porsche Taycan.
Personally, I think the Audi e-tron GT looks better, though the Taycan is good looking, and I like its cabin a bit better for its more traditional controls. However, it’s hard to choose the Audi over the Porsche if you actually want to drive. Though, if comfort and style are more your choice, the Audi e-tron GT is a better bet. Plus, it’s cheaper.
