For decades, the Audi A6 has been taking on the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, battling for German midsize executive sedan supremacy. With mixed results, though. Because the Audi A6 typically acts as a sort of middle-man, splitting the differences between the two cars, it’s never been more exceptional than the other two cars at anything. What about this new car, though? Can this new A6 take on its familiar foes and finally win? We find out in this new video comparison from Carwow.
In this video, we see the Audi A6 take on the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Lexus LS. So not only does it have to compete with its two main rivals but a newcomer as well.
The test is pretty evenly matched. All three Germans use 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engines, while the Lexus ES is the outlier with a four-cylinder gasoline engine and a hybrid powertrain. While that hybrid setup is interesting and sort of in vogue at the moment, it’s the slowest car of the bunch and the least likely to have some fun.
As for the three Germans, they’re all pretty similar in terms of power and performance. Still, there are cars that stand out for their fun factor. For instance, the BMW 5 Series is likely the car enthusiasts would want to own most, as it’s the most fun car of the bunch to drive. But the Audi A6 is hot on the Bimmer’s tails and drives really well on its own. While the Mercedes is comfy and relaxing, it’s not very fun to drive. As for the Lexus, it’s a mixed bag. while there are things to like about the Lexus, the interior is just infuriating.
I won’t spoil the results, as you should just go and watch it. However, the end wasn’t all that surprising.
