Audi recently gave its most popular sedan a surprisingly comprehensive facelift, with a new face, new butt and some new interior tweaks. But is that new facelift enough to help the Audi A4 tackle its newer competitors? Mat Watson finds out in this new five-way comparison test from Carwow.
In this new test, we get to see the facelifted Audi A4 take on the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Volvo S60 and Alfa Romeo Giulia. So it’s essentially a test of all the best cars in the segment and all of which are excellent. So it’s a tough test for the A4 to win.
Watson is thorough in his test as well. He takes us through each car’s styling, interior, technology, back seat, trunk and what they’re all like to drive. Because that’s a ton of work, I’m not going to spoil the outcome for you and where each car placed. What I will say is that the Audi A4 did surprisingly well, despite being the oldest car in the test. Sure, it’s been given a facelift but its bones are old.
While it took on some of the best cars on the market, the A4 was actually able to place ahead of a lot of them. It even surprised him with how much fun it was to drive, despite being a front-wheel drive model. In fact, he felt it was more fun than at least one of the test’s rear-wheel drive competitors. And it was certainly more fun than the other front-drive car in the test, the Volvo S60.
Check out this review to see how well the Audi A4 compared to its newer rivals. It might not be the fastest or the most fun to drive or the most comfortable but it’s an excellent all-around car that, despite its age, is still worth buying.
