We’ve already seen the new Audi A3 Sportback and Sedan but they aren’t disco enough for you, there’s a new RS3 coming soon. The next-gen 2021 Audi RS3 Sportback is on its way and it was just recently caught doing some testing at the famed Nurburgring.
In this new spy video, we see the Audi RS3 doing some hot laps at the ‘Ring and it looks seriously quick. We don’t have any official specs but it’s likely that the RS3 gets a slightly updated version of the current RS3’s 2.5 liter turbocharged inline-five. If that’s the case it should make around 400 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Those are the same figures as the current RS3, so expect a few more ponies.
Even despite the lack of any real power bump over the outgoing car, this new car is fast. It seems to fly around the ‘Ring, so fast that it actually looks like the video is sped up a bit in certain areas.
That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though. Even the current RS3 is brutally fast, all these years later. It’s the oldest car in its class and still among the fastest. So if that’s what Audi can do on an old chassis, the new car should be epic.
Personally, I’m hoping for more improved dynamics, though. While fast and practical, the current Audi RS3 isn’t really focused on lateral agility. I’m hoping that the next model is a bit more agile, more driver-focused. That’s really the current RS3’s biggest problem — it’s a bit numb and sedate.
We can’t really hear the killer five-cylinder engine in this video, as the ‘Ring is mostly filed with tires screeching. But we’re expecting it to sound as fantastic as the current car but potentially ever better. If it can sound better and handle a bit better, the RS3 could become the best car in the segment.
