Lost among a lot of the news about electric and hybrid vehicles, Audi is currently working on its lineup of next-generation A3 models. Two of which were just caught testing in a new spy video from Motor1 and we get to see the Audi S3 Sportback, along with its more normal sibling the A3, doing some winter testing.
First up, we see the Audi A3 Sportback in the snow. We can tell it’s the standard A3 due to the lack of exhaust pipes seen at the back. Not only does that indicate that it’s a normal Audi A3 but it also tells us the A3 will be getting fake exhausts now too (grrrr). It also shows us a lot of the new design for the A3.
It looks similar but noticeably better than the car it’s replacing. The roofline is more aggressively raked and it looks lower, leaner and sportier than the current car. It also gets a new Singleframe grille which is now larger, taking up most of the front end. Sadly, it seems to have basically the same headlights as the current car.
Halfway through the video, we get to see the Audi S3 Sportback. It obviously looks quite similar to the standard A3 but lower, sportier and noticeably quicker. Thankfully, the Audi S3 gets actually exhaust pipes; four of them as a proper Audi ‘S’ car should get. Part of the video shows the Audi S3 directly in front of a current A3 Cabriolet and the changes at the front end are quite obvious and they look much better.
We’re very excited about the new Audi S3 and even the more normal A3 Sportbacks. They look better than before and, more importantly, they look sportier than before. This is good news for enthusiasts who want an affordable Audi hatchback but also want something fun and exciting.
