We’re naturally very excited about the brand-new Audi RS3 Sedan in America. It’s the first we’ve ever seen the RS3 ‘Stateside, so we’re happy to have it. However, it’s still not the best model variant. The best model variant is the Audi RS3 Sportback, which isn’t available in the US, though it’s available literally everywhere else. The RS3 Sportback is one of the best possible hot hatches on the road. But is it as good as the Mercedes-AMG A45? Carwow finds out in this latest video.
In this video, we get a walkthrough of the entire car, its powertrain and some of its interesting features. Its looks are a bit more subtle than the Mercedes-AMG A45, though still aggressive. The entire car is lowered over the standard A3, it has large wheels, big carbon ceramic brakes and a cool spoiler. But aside from that, its looks are rather tame by comparison. Its cabin is also very nice, made from high quality and gets impressive technology. Though, it could be a bit sportier, as the AMG really nails the sporty look.
But the star of the Audi RS3 Sportback is its powertrain. The 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine under its hood makes 400 hp flat and is paired with a rapid-shifting dual-clutch gearbox. So it’s capable of 0-60 mph in around 3.9 seconds, which is simply absurd. While the AMG has an impressive motor itself, with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder, making 376 hp, and can get from 0-60 mph 4.0 seconds flat, according to Carwow. So while the AMG is good, it seems that the Audi is better. Plus, no engine around its size makes as good of a noise as Audi’s five-pot.
But which car is actually better?
Well, when driven back-to-back, Mat Watson from Carwow seems to really, really like the new Audi RS3 Sportback. It actually has a better chassis, that’s more playful and exciting, has the better engine and is faster. While it might not be as sharp or as buttoned-down as the Mercedes-AMG, it’s the better car to drive more of the time. So the answer to the previously asked question is “yes”. The Audi RS3 Sportback is better than the Mercedes-AMG A45.
