We’ve been talking about the new Audi R8 Spyder quite a bit lately and for good reason, as it’s a stunning car. Personally, I actually think the Spyder looks better than the Coupe variant of the R8, and I’m not normally a convertible fan. However, something about losing the roof of the R8 just makes it so much more appealing. Plus, it allows you to hear so much more of that glorious V10 noise.
In Spyder form, the R8 doesn’t come in “V10 Plus” trim, so it will have to make do with only 540 hp. However, that’s more than enough to be thrilling, doing 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. However, it’s still mated to the same seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and rear-bias Quattro all-wheel drive system. That makes just as dynamic and capable as the Coupe.
But is it more enjoyable to dive than the coupe? There can certainly be a case made that says yes. There’s just so much more drama and noise to the Spyder and isn’t drama and noise what a supercar is all about? So let’s take a look at what Alex Goy, of CNET’s Roadshow and Carfection, has to say about it.
