We recently saw spy shots of the upcoming 2017 Audi A5, built on the MLB platform shared with the A4, though there wasn’t much to be determined from the limited shots of a heavily camouflaged A5.
We can definitely see that the 2017 Audi A5 will be an evolutionary progression from the current model, much like the B9 Audi A4. Overall shape and profile don’t seem to be changed much from the current A5, thought the front and rear ends seem to be a bit tighter, much like the B9 A4.
There are some other subtle things we can make out from the spy shots and video. The two exhaust pipes on the left side only indicate that this is an A5 and no the more powerful S5 variant. The taillights can slightly be seen through the camo and seem sleeker and wider. In the video, the A5 also tends to understeer quite a bit less than you’d expect from a less performance-oriented Audi without a sports differential, indicating that this new MLB chassis is considerably more controlled than before. Though, there was a decent amount of complaining coming from the tires as the A5 did understeer a bit.
We can also see that the A5 turns in quite briskly and looks quick coming out of bends. Thank the extra power bump and lower weight for that. Overall, the 2017 Audi A5 looks decent from the extremely limited info we can discern from these spy shots and video.
