This years European Car 2.0T Tuner G.P., which was presented by Continental Tire, featured quite a few Audis. It only makes sense, as Audi develops quite a lot of high-performance 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder models. Some of the cars featured in the races were the new B9 Audi A4, Audi S3 Sedan and an Audi TTS. All tuned, of course, but all are still road cars, not track-dedicated cars.
A popular car in this 2.0T class is the Volkswagen Golf R, which uses the same engine as the Audi S3 and the same Haldex all-wheel drive system, as well. But all cars were fitted with the same Continental Ultra-High Performance ExtremeContact Sport tires, so the playing field was level for all cars.
The racing took place on the 1.6 mile, 14-turn road course at the Streets of Willow Springs race track in California. It’s one of the better circuits for these sort of cars, as they aren’t all-out supercars that can achieve ridiculous speeds. So it’s just some good ole road car racing with small displacement engines and sticky tires.
