British media says the Audi R8 will form the basis of a two-seater Bentley will launch before the end of the decade. This report shouldn’t come really as a big surprise taking into consideration that both Audi and Bentley are under Volkswagen Group’s large umbrella. Such a model will be a throwback to the Lamborghini-based mid-engined Bentley Hunaudiéres concept which was introduced back in 1999 at the Geneva Motor Show and can be seen in the attached image.
Rather than packing the famous V10 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated engine from the Audi R8, this new Bentley model will likely make the switch to a revised variant of the in-house W12. Even though it will be largely based on the second generation Audi R8, Bentley’s new two-seater model will look entirely different both inside and out.
Previous reports about the new Bentley model referred to the use of a hybridized V6 setup or a twin-turbo V8 engine but it seems in the end it will pack Bentley’s reputable W12. The company’s CEO Wolfgang Durheimer hasn’t green-lighted the model yet and the company is also playing around with the idea of a convertible to position above the Continental but below the Mulsanne.
If approved for production, the two-seater Bentley will come out within the next six years.
