It seems as if the Audi Sport brand is attempting to increase its model lineup to better compete with its German neighbors BMW M and Mercedes-AMG. While both of those performance brands have model portfolios spanning almost every market in the industry, Audi Sport’s cupboard is a bit less full by comparison. According to this report from Top Gear, that’s going to change, as six new models will be joining Audi Sport in 2019, including two all-new Audi RS models.
While there’s no word on exactly which models these two new Audi RS cars will be, it’s likely that they’re both SUVs. Audi has not been shy about claiming its desire to increase its number of performance SUVs. Considering that it now has a few more of these sporty SUVs in the lineup, it only makes sense that they’ll get RS treatment. For instance, it’s likely that the two new Audi RS cars will be the Audi RS Q8 and at least one other SUV to go along with it.
In fact, we already know an Audi RS Q8 is on the way. We’ve seen it in spy photos and videos, lapping the Nurburgring, so we know it’s going to be one of those new models. The other one could be any number of things, though. There’s never been an RS-version of the Q2, Q5, Q7 and A8. One of those could very well get some RS treatment.
Personally, I’d like it to be the latter. While the Audi A8 is designed to be a luxury car first and foremost, it would be cool to see one get the RS treatment. Something akin to the Mercedes-AMG S65, which uses a stonking V12. Stuff the same twin-turbo W12 from the Bentley Bentayge in an Audi RS8. That would be cool.
