For those of you that didn’t happen to catch the fantastic documentary about Audi’s hard-fought victory at the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans, Truth in 24, then you’re in luck. After the win at the 12 Hours of Sebring on the debut of the Audi R15 prototype racer, Audi was feeling just a bit generous and is now offering the hour and a half documentary for free via iTunes.
Truth in 24 documents the lead up to the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans as Audi prepared to do battle against its toughest rival to date: the Peugeot 908HDi, a team that had trounced Audi for much of the season. The documentary chronicles the challenge Audi faced and shows what it was like to compete in the world’s most trying race through the eyes of Mr. Le Mans: Tom Kristensen as well as the engineers that many times don’t get the lime light or credit they deserve to keep the drivers and cars running for 24 hours straight.
Even if you’re not a fan of Audi or the prototype classes, this is an excellent film that any true gearhead of pertrolhead should see – especially if you’ve seen the 1971 film Le Mans by Steve McQueen. Go ahead and do yourself a favor and search for “Truth in 24” on iTunes, you won’t regret it!
