TopSpeed renders 2019 Audi R6 coupe

We recently asked if the Audi TT RS Coupe/Roadster could compete with the Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster S, as they could be priced similarly. However, the Audi TT RS might not have to be the car to compete with the Porsche siblings, as Audi could be developing a car on the exact same platform as the 718 Cayman/Boxster — the Audi R6.

We recently talked a bit about how there have been rumors about the Audi R6, which would be a mid-engine sports car that will be available in either coupe or a roadster variant. If such an Audi R6 is made, it will be built on the same platform as the Porsche 718 twins, which is a promising idea. Plus, it would give Audi the Baby-R8 that fans have been wanting for so long. But what will it look like?

Well, TopSpeed, known for their great renders, has given it a go and rendered what an Audi R6 Coupe could look like. In this render, it certainly looks every bit of the “Baby-R8” that fans have been hoping for. In fact, it looks almost exactly like an R8, only smaller, and with a front-end that has a bit of Audi Prologue in it.

We don’t know what sort of engine would power the Audi R6 if it does come to be, but it could possibly be the 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 from the Audi S4 or maybe even the 2.5 liter turbocharged I5 from the RS3 and TT RS. The latter would likely be the better choice, as it’s a bit smaller and more compact, making it a better fit for a mid-engine car, and it would give familiarity to its fellow RS models.

We don’t know if such an Audi R6 will actually exist in the future, but if it does and it looks like this render, we’ll be very happy people. A mid-engine, turbocharged, all-wheel drive Audi that’s sized and priced similarly to the Porsche Cayman would be a dream come true for many enthusiasts.
