In America, fast wagons are a bit of a taboo. We typically don’t like wagons at all, never mind wagons that wear six-figure price tags. So cars like the Audi RS6 are not very popular cars here in the ‘States. But they are popular with our friends across the pond in that continent called Europe.
The Audi RS6 is the pinnacle of high-performance wagons and is one of the highest performance cars on the market in stock form. However, a tuning company based in Britain, called Litchfield, has decided that the RS6’s 560 hp wasn’t enough so they went to work pumping out more ponies from the 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged TFSI V8 engine. With just an ECU tune and a free-flowing Akropovic exhaust, Litchfield has been able to produce 750 bhp and 700 lb-ft of torque from the 4.0 TFSI engine.
According to Litchfield, Audi far over-engineers the 4.0 liter V8 engine to handle much more power than the 560 hp the RS6 creates. This is due to the fact that the very same 4.0 V8 used in the RS6 is also used in several other Audi vehicles, Bentleys with far more power and even the upcoming Lamborghini Urus SUV, so it needs to be incredible strong. The internals are incredibly durable and require no tampering to reach over 800 hp, according to Litchfield, but 750 hp is far more than enough. Also, the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive system are strong enough as standard to handle all of the horsepower and torque without any modifications. That just goes to show how strong the RS6 really is.
Top Gear got the chance to test out this monster Litchfield Audi RS6 Avant and has lived to write about it. According to Top Gear, this abominable RS6 is able to get from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds and 0-100 mph in just 6.7 seconds. And that was on a damp track, Top Gear reckons it could do 0-60 in under 3 seconds had the track been dry and conditions perfect.
But what’s most impressive is just how docile the car can be. The standard Audi RS6 has an uncanny ability to be a track monster one minute and a luxurious mile muncher then next. It can be just as docile as it can be ferocious. The Litchfield RS6 is no different. It can absolute destroy the world’s fastest supercars one minute and drive Grandma around in quiet comfort the next. It’s equally as easy to drive round town as a standard VW Golf while it has the power to destroy worlds with just a prod of the throttle.
Audi RS6 Avant ExclusiveLitchfield offers three stages of different tuning, with this Top Gear tester being the highest and most expensive stage of tuning. However don’t let that put you off, because the highest stage of tune only costs £4,939 ($7,297), or less than Audi’s optional Bang & Olufsen sounds system. So it’s incredible value for dollar, err…British Pound. If you live in on the Eastern side of the Atlantic and have the money to afford such a monstrous vehicle, do it. It’s rare when you can have a family wagon that can transport family, children, dogs and luggage at the same time while also being able to embarrass Porsche 911 owners in the process.Top Gear]
