We all know a third Audi TT body style is coming and according to British media the vehicle in question will likely end up being a crossover. Talking to CAR at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Audi’s technical chief Ulrich Hackenberg shed some light about the future of the brand which will grow from today’s 50 different models to 60 by the end of this decade.
As expected, most of the new arrivals are going to be spin-offs of current cars and one of them is going to be slotted in the third generation TT lineup which currently includes the coupe and roadster. All additions will ride on existing architectures and although Audi’s TT Sportback concept has received a strong feedback, chances are the third TT production car will be a crossover derivative in the same vein as the TT offroad concept pictured here.
Hackenberg described these spin-offs as being “inter-segment clusters” and although he didn’t mention how many body styles will be added, he did say this move represents a profitable business case for Audi. A decision regarding the third TT has not been taken yet but Hackenberg says it will be decided in the next few weeks.
