SPIED: Upcoming Audi RS Q3 Sportback caught looking a little green

There’s been quite a lot of talk surrounding high-performance SUVs coming from Audi Sport as of late. With the upcoming Audi RS Q8 on the horizon and Audi Sport Boss Oliver Hoffman talking about expansion, it seems as if RS-model SUVs are becoming quite popular. Now, some new spy photos have surfaced of yet another RS-badged crossover, the upcoming Audi RS Q3 Sportback. (We don’t own the spy photos but check them here)

The Sportback version of the Audi RS Q3 will be the coupe-like version. So it will get a more aggressive roofline, a fatter C-pillar, a roof spoiler and some Q8-styling to make it seem sportier and more aggressive than the standard car. Although, it does seem a bit superfluous, given the fact that it’s not all that much different looking than the regular RS Q3 and will get less rear headroom.

Aside from its chopped rear roofline, the Audi RS Q3 Sportback is pretty much the same as the standard RS Q3. So it gets the same aggressive front end, with massive front air intakes and the new RS-style grille. It also gets giant black wheels, a lowered ride height and Audi Sport’s signature (ie: massive) dual oval exhaust pipes.

In these spy photos, the Audi RS Q3 Sportback is heavily wrapped in camouflage but we can see some of its paint peeking through and it’s green. Very green. The green paint seen on this test mule looks like it could be the same Viper Green available on current Audi RS cars but we’re not sure entirely. Either way, it’s a great color and will look killer in contrast to its black accents.

When the RS Q3 Sportback arrives, it will pack the brand’s signature 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine, making around 400 hp. So it should be very quick. That engine will be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive.

We’re not so sure we see a point to a Sportback model of the RS Q3 but we’re not going to complain about more Audi Sport models. So bring it on.

I've been in love with cars since I was a kid, specifically German cars. Now I get to drive them talk about them on the internet.
