SPIED: Audi SQ3 caught testing at the Nurburgring

Audi-SQ3 (3 of 3)

We still haven’t seen the next-gen Audi Q3 yet, officially, as the four-ringed brand has yet to reveal it. However, we have seen quite a lot of spy photos of it and its interior, so we have a good idea of what it’s going to look like. Now, though, there’s a new spy video showing the Audi SQ3, the faster version, lapping the famed Nurburgring.

In this video from Automotive Mike, a heavily camouflaged Audi SQ3 is seen lapping the ‘Ring at a pretty brisk pace. While it’s hard to tell, thanks to all the camouflage, we do know that this is an SQ3 and not a standard Q3. The key giveaways are the lowered ride height, quad exhaust pipes and much angrier noise than you’d find on a standard Audi.

There’s no official word yet as to what sort of engine might power the SQ3 but we’re assuming it will be at least related to the same 310 hp 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the Audi S3. It might get more power than the S3 but it will likely sport a version of the same engine. That engine will also likely be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and send power to an all-wheel drive system to the S3.

It looks good in this video, looking fast and sounding good. It seems to have tight body control and quick reflexes, which is refreshing for any sort of Q3 variant. The current-gen Audi Q3 is a bit of a dud, performance and handling wise, so it’s nice to see a version of it that’s actually fun to drive.

This new Audi SQ3 looks like it’s going to be a fun little crossover and one that could be one of the more exciting new Audis. We’re anxious to see more of it, especially without all that pesky camouflage.
